The Purpose.

For many in our community, growing vegetables has been an integral part of life. Passed down from generation to generation, the knowledge of tending crops is central for a healthy and happy life. The unfortunate reality is that many individuals lack access to land, seeds, tools and water. The purpose of the ELA program is to reconnect individuals with a passion for agriculture, to land and equipment on favorable terms. Increasing the number and diversity of farmers is crucial for a vibrant local food system, and will lead to a stronger more resilient community.

Mutual Benefit.

The ELA program allows individuals to farm for their family, local community, and for profit. More land converted into chemical-free crops equates to more nutritiously-dense food generated and consumed within Linn County. The benefit this has on the overall health of the local community, economy and environment can be significant. All produce travels less than 25 miles from field to table, reducing emissions, increasing access while stimulating the local economy.
